We have always believed that what someone finds funny tells a lot about them as a person. Think back to any social gathering you’ve been a part of, and we are sure that at some point or another, jokes related to being a married man, controlling woman, or generally dysfunctional relationships, have come up, only to be met by an air of dismissal or nonchalance.
While there is no problem with harmless banter, what we don’t understand is how casually some of these things tend to be taken, when people are constantly judging one another on the basis of just about everything from the colour of their hair to the length of their women’s boxer shorts. And no, we are not trying to be pseudo-feminists here or anything. Truth be told, our views on “feminism” are yet being defined. This is just us, speaking up as a manufacturer of women’s boxer shorts, on how a lot of things happening around us do need a lot more change, and that it is actually not very difficult, if we only step back, think about it a little, and then react or respond.
If all of us just did a little, very little bit, in our own capacities, we are sure of what a huge impact that is bound to have on the society around us. And to help you do that, here are three alarmingly disturbing things that can actually be fixed with a little proactive attention.
Education: Men and Women have been created with certain obvious physiological and psychological differences, there is no denying that. However, in terms of their capabilities, there is so much that both the genders can accomplish to the same capacity. Never put a woman in a position to ask for permission, or even worse, be denied it, when it comes to choosing her education or even career. It is heartbreaking to see so many women, especially housewives of the previous generation burn and extinguish their flames without really spreading the light they were born with the capability to.
Marriage and Reproduction: Alright, men and women of India, it is high time you realize that there is more to life than marriage and having children. Please, please, pretty please, give your women little more credit than you do today. They do have it in them to build a life of their dreams, consciously aware of what they are choosing, and by default not. Yes, you may have seen more of the world than them, but please understand that that world has changed now. Again, don’t put them in a position where despising you for taking their decisions in the name of “we know what’s best for you” is a normalcy.
Passing Judgements: It is surprising that we live in a country of such contrast where on one hand we talk so highly of things like feminism and equality, and on the other cannot help but leer at a woman walking down the street wearing her tank top and women’s boxer shorts, while simultaneously passing judgements in our heads. For some reason, we enjoy watching these things on screens (movie theaters and our phones), and yet, when we see it in the physical world around us, the tiniest thing is enough for us to pass some judgement. The next time you are about to, we’d like to ask you one thing: why or how on earth does it make a difference to your life or you?
Once again, to clarify, no, this is not a pseudo-feminist post trying to simply promote the fact that we manufacture women’s boxer shorts and hence want to justify women wearing them. All we want to say for now is that honestly, our women make our lives so much better just by being in them, and it is just about time that we began returning the favour. Wouldn’t you agree?
